Wow, to think that the eventful and action-packed term 2 has finally come to an end really messes with my perception of time. Seriously, where does time go when lost? School and personal life can often be overwhelming, but I always find myself rather calm upon entering the AEP classroom. This class truly has something special that words cannot describe. I will be entirely honest: the past few weeks have been absolutely tiring mentally and physically for me due to personal matters. But I always find myself smiling in AEP, as if all the problems never were. Now, let me expand on those special moments in AEP where life’s issues are forgotten.
March 12 - Word Game Day
With certain people absent for Cambridge mock exams, we spent the entire lesson playing away at fun little word games. It was an enjoyable lesson for sure, having our minds challenged but in a calm, stoic environment. Having some sort of “rest day” after the Musical truly helped a ton in clearing up my foggy mind.
March 18 - Good Title
This Monday session of AEP felt very productive and fun. We were introduced to a new word game called “Hello Wordl”. I find approaching a wordle game with 7 letters instead of 5 to be really refreshing because ever since we cracked the code for normal Wordle games, we were accustomed to winning through specific 5-letter words. Having us take one step outside the comfort zone expanded our skillset.
After our long-awaited vocabulary quiz, we had a rather quizzical seatwork. Instead of the usual format of having a relatively long extract, we had mini extracts and had to write good titles and summaries for them. It seemed easy at first, but as we went on, it gradually felt more insurmountable. Thankfully, with Miss Disa’s help, I understood the extracts better and the process in finding the right answers.
March 19 - Scrabble Screwups
Cambridge exam takers were gone again and it was time to play Scrabble - without Mysha. It feels odd to play Scrabble without her and her obnoxious words that end up in her winning. I was paired with Zahrah (and felt awfully bad for her) and we were royally defeated. The entire game was a disaster for nearly every letter we obtained was a vowel. Regardless of our defeat, it was a blast.
Term 3 for AEP really started out strong. In the past couple weeks we faced new challenges for growth and had tons of fun in the process. I’m happy that we create such moments of joy in an educational environment, allowing room for natural growth for all of us. AEP has been delightful as of late and even if it isn’t always Scrabble and word games, there’s always something to look forward to.
