With the introduction of clubs, the upcoming musical, STEM Congress, Field Trip, and maybe finally our class' girl's sleepover? It's been too long. Anyways, with all the different and exciting events happening and approaching, one might find it easy to momentarily forget the existence of AEP. However, with Miss Disa back and her board working, it isn't as easy as you think...
JANUARY 22, 2024 - Squaredle Trouble
There's no better way to start an AEP lesson than with our favourite warm up, Squaredle. Kuk was granted the responsibility and burden of being the one in charge of The Pen. It felt like Hyeono was controlling the board, however, as he kept grabbing Kuk's arm to force him. Kuk was struggling to spell simple words like shirt and sword, making it no wonder Hyeono kept forcing Kuk, even if there is no valid reason to resort to forcing.
Sid, as usual, kept saying "bonus ducks" whenever we got a bonus word. On the topic of bonus words, Mysha was able to find the bonus word of the day, being dowse. I recall someone asking "Why, why?" at some point during the warm up, Miss Disa's voice following close after saying "I ask that to myself everyday." Don't we all, Miss. Don't we all.
In the end, we were able to finish the whole Squaredle, getting 70/70 words pretty quickly... Oh. It took 30 minutes.
JANUARY 22, 2024 - Vocabulary Menagerie
Shortly after our warm up, Miss pulled up vocabtest.com unit 10, and opened the word search. I did appreciate this type of "warm up" before actually learning the new vocab, as it engaged us students and introduced us to the words. After effortlessly demolishing the word search, we clicked "Learning Definitions" and began. Miss taught us how to determine the definition of words using the first 3 or 5 letters, accompanied with the process of elimination (as it was multiple choice).
We learned the words accord, barter, curt, devise, dexterous, engross, entail, ferret, habituate, impending, personable, rue, scoff, transition, trepidation, upbraid, veritable, vex, vitality, and whimsical. I found a few of the words familiar, and only a few foreign to me. Words such as entail, trepidation, upbraid, veritable, and vitality confused me, leading me to mix up the definitions.
For the last few minutes of class, we simply answered a few questions in our new worksheet.
JANUARY 23, 2024 - Jeepers!
No AEP lessons would be complete without a warm up, which for today would be Squaredle. I recall Adelia groaning in frustration when Miss pulled up the website on her board. However, I did quite enjoy Squaredle, taking it upon myself to be in charge of The Pen for today. I am quite satisfied with myself, being able to find a multitude of words myself, much more than usual.
We finished of Squaredle's 31 words (plus the bonus word of the day jeepers) in 17 minutes. Not bad.
JANUARY 23, 2024 - Vocabulary Anxiety
I would be glad for Miss as her board is up and running once again (after the grade 9 incident), if it weren't for the fact we'd be going back to the traditional vocab Wheel of Doom, as Miss likes to call it. The reason why? It is because said wheel decides whether we'd get a word we know, whether we'd fail or pass... Not to mention the wheel hates us, therefore we hate it back. I was especially nervous today, as I didn't study as much as I normally would. I could only hope for the best...
My friends and I were able to steal a few minutes to study vocab unit 10, before Miss told us to put away our notebooks. I reviewed the words trepidation and entail, as those were the words with definition I had a difficult time remembering. Speaking of entail, the definition of entail in the vocabtest.com website was apparently incorrect, leading to Miss reciting the proper definition out loud. She went the extra mile to paraphrase it so that even our nonexistent brains could understand. Then, we began.
JANUARY 23, 2024 - DOMESTICATED!
I went first, getting the word habituate, meaning "to become used to by frequent repetition or prolonged exposure." After going to the other side of the room, Adelia couldn't quite get her word, so Kuk (or was it Zahrah? I can't quite remember) stole it, leaving Adelia remained standing. A couple people later, however, Adelia was able to steal Hyeono's word, leaving Hyeono the only one standing.
Coming full circle and going back to me, I got the word entail. Even if Miss did recite the meaning of entail only few minutes prior, I struggled to bring the meaning to (my nonexistent) mind. I was still able to get the meaning, however, or at least close enough for Miss to consider it. Whew.
To finish off vocab on a light note, Rayan was the last. Unfortunately for him, there were only 2 words left, the words ferret and engross. He didn't know the meaning of engross but knew ferret, so it was a 50/50 chance between life and death. Miss spun the wheel, and for a second one would think he got ferret, leading him to scream out the word "DOMESTICATED!" Unfortunately for him, the wheel leaned on unto engross at the last second, consequently making everyone laugh and him failing. Kuk took the millisecond of everyone distracted laughing to whisper the meaning of engross in Rayan's ear, however, we still saw it, not helping Rayan's situation whatsoever.
Welcome to the beginning of the end, a.k.a. the conclusion of this blog. I was able to learn many valuable lessons this week, thanks to Miss Disa's wonderful teachings.
I would like to thank Adi and Leo for always writing amazing blogs I use as inspiration for my own. Special thanks to Janek for expanding my lexicon simply by reading his blogs (I learned the word lexicon from his blogs actually).
Some honorable mentions go to Aleena, who encouraged me to write down in my AEP notebook what we did in class while we were still in class, helping me with my blogs as I am not as retentive as most (retentive, an AEP vocab word!), and Summer, for simply having amazing blogs lol.
And with that, my AEP blog comes to a close! I am quite proud of this one, if I do say so myself. My heartfelt thanks to all that read this, and see you next time!
