Aleena Imran - T2 BLOG #5 - Grade 8

I honestly can’t believe it’s already the second blog of 2024! Honestly, time just goes fast and you don’t even realize until you’re sitting again to write another AeP blog. And it’s already the fifth blog of the term or should I say the last blog of the 2nd trimester. Like how, didn’t we just start school yesterday? It’s actually scary to the point that you realize, the next blog will be weeks later, in the final trimester.

Enough talking about how fast time flies, let’s start talking about my days in aep

Curious to see what happens? Come with me as we reveal every single detail about my day (s)!

Without further ado, let the chaos begin !^_^

Jan 22, 2024 - A science worksheet?!

Squardle, ah, our mortal enemy. How dare you come upon us again?

It is that we struggle almost every time we do it. Not really when the word count is below fifty. Though the first fifty words are quite easy, the last few always kill us. At this point we would make up random words, like what is serpy? This stress caused hyeono to constantly grab kuks arm, it's extremely funny. And I don’t mean just gently grab him, hyeono full on controls his hand. Hyeono is always constantly shouting out the answers, he says to listen to me only. I’m just confused because he’s acting like he’s the teacher here. Around the last few words, the stress was so high to the point that Mr.Kuk starts misspelling the words. Let me give you an example, “srwod” instead of “sword”. Suddenly out of nowhere Kuk or should I say Mr. Kuk couldn’t find the letter W, all of us were shouting and yelling at him, “there! there!”

One century later, Mr Kuk finds it.

The room fills with laughter.

Finally, at 1:45, we finished. The feeling of relief entered all our bodies.

Not even a minute later, we kicked off with a word search regarding our  practice vocabulary quiz. Since there were many of us, we were able to get it in six minutes. It was super fun, easy and amusing! The word search was quite big, containing twenty words. But as a class, anything could be done.

And this was the moment you were all waiting for, the science worksheet. It was quite absurd to see that we were gonna do science instead of other general topics . It wasn’t literally learning science but more on how words are structured, e.x “logy” meant the study of and “bio” meant life, together forming the study of life. It was also quite informative and interesting regardless of the actual topic. There was this one specific question we encountered, it was about what you would call a person if they studied this. For example, a person who studies cartography is a cartographer. But not all ended in “er”, some needed in “ist” like physicist. If you guessed that person studies physics, you would be correct! Continuing that, we just answered the following questions given in the worksheet. Hyeono never stops talking like any boy in this class, this made miss smack him with the worksheet to keep him quiet. Everyone laughed.

I felt like that day enhanced my linguistic skills, always looking forward to more worksheets like this ^_^

Jan 23, 2024 - The Wheel of Doom

To start the lesson, we kicked off with a game of Squardle. But this Squardle contains a whole number of words, 26 to be exact. At first, it was quite easy and fast. At 24/26 words, is the time we started to struggle. Though I do not remember the two words, I do remember it took us longer than usual. Around 1:28, we had finally finished the warmup that we all love.

For the people wondering what the wheel of doom is, it’s basically the wheel of names which contains the twenty words for the vocabulary test. We would all go around the table asking Miss to spin the wheel. It was quite scary but also quite relaxing since I am quite retentive. It started with Aire, Me then summer and so forward. Until it reached hyeono, hyeono is super exaggerative, he said it like “cAn yOU sPIn tHe wHeEL pLeaSE”. As he gets his word after Miss spins the wheel, he starts laughing since he was unfamiliar with the word. Few seconds later, Adelia volunteered to answer it and of course, she slayed. Oh boy, rayan was like “ CAN YOU SPIN THE WHEEL PLEASE, THANK YOU, I LOVE YO-“, he is just super weird. After rayan got the definition of the word, both Hyeono and Rayan squats in sync. Don’t ask how and why, it just happened. In the second round, going around the table, it appears that rayan was going again with the second last word. The last two words were engross and ferret. As Miss was spinning the wheel, he said “DOMESTICATED!”, we all laughed because he didn’t realize the word was engross, which was obviously incorrect. Rayan laughed in embarrassment.

At the end of the lesson, Miss decided to let me play wordle. By me playing wordle means mysha stealing the pen from me. And of course I let her do it since she’s the Queen of wordle. She got the first word “Earth” in three tries, super impressive if you ask me. Hyeono joined with mysha and played a few games together.

Fun fact: I got the words Dexterous and Devise, they both start with the letter D. Coincidence, am I right?

I would like to thank myself for having the energy to write this blog. And also Summer, who is truly the one who taught me how to write these long and informative blogs. Finally, Aire, the one who would always sit beside me and write every single detail about our aep lessons to be able to create this enlightening blog :)

Quote of the blog:

Any challenge can be solved, just with the help of the people around you.”

IM THE MAP! - Janek - Blog 2 - T3 - AEP 10

Although maps have always held a peculiar charm for me, a fascination sparked during childhood by watching episodes of Dora the Explorer and her indispensable map, my relationship with them has evolved. Previously, a map was a guide to travelling to places, a tool for discovering new café locations on trips, or simply a way to marvel at rather weird corners of the globe. However, my recent academic assignments have altered my perception of maps, making them less of an object of intrigue and more a source of stress. Essays have made maps worse! Before, engaging with a map never entailed writing an essay. If my father discussed a historical map, I’d happily delve into a verbal explanation rather than penning an analysis. But now, as a student in an Advanced English Program, essays have become a standard expectation. Tackling these assignments has been a significant challenge, turning my once enjoyable encounters with maps into a draining task. It’s clear now that the essays, not my exhau...

Miss Disa is back! - AEP 10- BLOG#4- JANEK

Now that the exams have finally concluded and the stress has lifted, thanks to the break and the high AEP spirit, it seems inevitable that a blog post is in order! The past weeks have been some of the most unusual and unpredictable I've ever experienced in AEP. With a few new faces, Miss Disa's absence, and sudden activities, let's delve into the latest updates on AEP. A Sudden Disappearance? On January 7, just a day before AEP's classes resumed, I felt a sense of fear. Fear that I might have forgotten something, a feeling I often experience. Despite this, I had to enter the class with confidence. However, my expectations took an unexpected turn. Miss Disa was nowhere to be seen. She had apparently left for the UK, and has not yet arrived in the Philippines. This had left many of us  confused, yet simultaneously relieved. No work, no stress! All we had to do was sit in the Filipino class doing nothing. Initially, that's what we thought, until a notification popped u...

Nurin’s AEP Adventure (Term 3 #1)

Hey blog!!! Under some ciscumstances, I have relapsed into my old habits of procrascination and I’m really not proud of that :,) But that’s okay, I’m still in progress and of course I’m gonna have ups and downs. Embracing any chance to change myself for the better, always. Anyways, IT’S TERM 3 ALREADY?!?!? My my, time flies like a speed jet to space. I’m like a leap away from graduating and that thought scares me, in an exciting way. I cannot even imagine yet what the future holds for me and I’m eager to find out. For now, nothing much is going on except for preparations of the musical production on March 9th. So I’ve just been really busy with dance trainings and rehearsals here and there. Expectations are really high for the Grade 12 so we have to give it our best and perform to our fullest potential.  I have been putting off works in the last moments of previous term. I got my Cambridge exam result and it brought me back down to my dark pit, I never want to get out of there like...
