Last week's class started with an unfinished quardle game which we completed in a flash. After playing the short exercise game, it was time to continue giving short descriptions of our topics about psychology in fashion. William went first. His topic was all about the sociology behind the colors in uniforms. I couldn't clearly hear what he said while giving a brief summary of his topic, due to my worsening hearing problems but basically what colors people wear to work can show how they feel at that moment or basically it is another way of them expressing themselves to the people around them, even if that is without realization. After William shared his ideas, Miss Disa also added a few more points from his paper, and I was quite taken in shock by how much just a piece of clothing can show so much. It was then my turn to share my topic with the class. My topic was all about how uniforms affect the working environment, especially customer perceptions in the UAE. We further discussed my topic as well, it was fun and very insightful to hear everyone's perspectives on each one of the topics we shared.
In the next period, we dived in-depth into uniforms. We discussed questions like: "Do you like our school's uniform?", "Do you think uniforms are necessary in working environments?", and "What do you look for in uniforms?". We were all in favor of wearing uniforms to school. Firstly because you do not have to think of what to wear every morning, this can literally drain a person so much. When I go out with my friends or family I tend to take so long to pick an outfit because I just don't know what to wear anymore. So in an environment where every individual is wearing the same clothes, you do not have to stress about things like "I don't have any clothes anymore" or even start comparing yourself to others. At this point in class, we all had so much to say. One thing mentioned was that yes we prefer uniforms, but these uniforms should at least be comfortable and have a good design so that students' confidence and motivation increase. Miss Disa then gave a short activity to see whether we in class think alike when it comes to how we interpret colors. We wrote down 5 emotions and then assigned a color for each of those emotions and we then shared them out loud. After this activity, we did another, where Miss Disa said 5 colors and we had to assign words to those colors. Let's say for the color red, I wrote anger, jealousy, Christmas, mystery, and royalty. Some of us had similar thoughts, on the other, some colors really seemed different to each one of us. For example, when I think of black, I think of depression, hopelessness, and secretiveness. But for Miss Disa, it meant something totally different. I believe everyone enjoyed and learned a lot last week! Let's see how fun it would now be to write letters tomorrow! See you, Miss Disa.
Thanks for such detailed feedback Ayse.
