Productivity at its Finest! - Chloe Lloveras- Blog 2 T1- AEP 10


New day, new week, new AEP session! But this time, we walked into the hands of a vocabulary quiz. Dun dun dun! 

Luckily, we started off with "Diffle" so we had time to relax our brains. The word was "escort."

Then, the real test began. I went up first and spun the wheel. It landed on "ambidextrous." The definition practically came spilling out of me: "the ability to use both hands with equal skill or ease." I quickly used it in a sentence and once Miss Disa had approved, I proceeded back to my seat. 

One by one, everyone went. When finished, we decided to give the same IELTS writing task 1 from last meeting another shot. I recalled the steps in starting a summary and found myself much faster and more efficient than before. However, improvements on the body portion still needed to be made. 

The next day, AEP started with a different word game called "Evil Wordle," which tries to not let you guess the word. We got it after about 7 tries. Then, in order to hone our paraphrasing skills, Miss Disa decided that it would be best to practice more IELTS prompts. After 3 exercises, we then discussed the "Chunking Method," which is supposed to help us paraphrase better and faster. It basically illustrates that the best way to do so is to cut up the sentence into portions/chunks and then paraphrase those chunks. It's done in this way to help your brain not feel overwhelmed. 

After trying on another exercise, we had a short lecture about how to turn nouns into verbs. An example of this would be, "stores that have opened or closed" becoming, "store closings or openings." This helps in not only paraphrasing, but also in cutting down the amount of words used, which is especially useful when you have a word limit of about 150.

As there were only 20 minutes left in the session, we moved our attention to "DOGONews" and read an article about hammerhead sharks and how they use their gills to stay warm in cold waters. We  took turns reading 2 sentences each. Then, we proceeded to talk about facts that we learned from the text. Mine was about how hammerhead sharks resemble the actual tool, which is where their name derives from. The day later ended with a sensational feeling of productivity and exhaustion. Working our brains really tired me out. 

Nonetheless, it was a great session overall. The only thing I really miss are our "Scrabble" days, which I hope will make a comeback soon! Till next time!

Blog 3.1 - moving too fast? - huda g11

  From juggling multiple homework and exams to participating in the musical, parliament, varsity and maintaining a social life, the days seem to blur together in a relentless stream of busyness. It's easy to get caught up in the chaos and lose track of time, which left me constantly feeling like having to keep on picking myself up again to start the next new thing. Despite the chaotic nature of this school year, it's important to take a moment to pause and give ourselves a small break. I think that is where AEP comes in line. With the moderate pace of learning new vocabulary, which I have found to be very useful considering I've passed by many familiar vocabs as I go on with my studies ehehehe, AEP gives me a sense of pause to my hustling life with its conversation-filled lessons incorporated with productive discussions on the words as well as the inclusion of what I would see it as “old-style” learning. i stopped counting the blogs at dis point

       Ah boy here we go again Another week, another blog about random stuff. Holy hell everything moves so fast that I feel like I could take a nap and suddenly miss 21 different events. it's a little odd when you get pulled out of your usual schedule and are forced to do a practice exam but like 'they' say: "practice makes perfect." also been rewatching RVB, kinda sad cuz Rooster Teeth decided in a Hail Mary attempt to earn some of that sweet moolah that they should make a large majority of their shows paywalled on yt and you have to use the inconsistent official Rooster Teeth website that is absolutely plagued with stunky add that no one wants. yeah more ads than YOUTUBE ,  AND THEY'RE ALL UNSKIBBABLE BECAUSE OF COURSE THEY ARE AND YOU GET 4 OF THEM EVERY EPISODE (some at the start and then some midroll ads). I know it is to push people to join their site and subscribe to FIRST but Oh ho hoh man... that is a level above despicable.
